What Glamour/Boudoir Photography Is
& What It Is Not
The first thing most people think of when they see the phrase "Glamour Photography" or "Boudoir Photography" are photos of a scantily clad woman in something lacy and revealing. This is true, partially, but it is so much more than that. "Glamour" or "Boudoir" is a term that covers many styles of photography, from swimsuit to artistic nudes.
Glamour/boudoir photos do not always contain nudity or even partial nudity. At times there is no nudity at all! If you have ever seen a swimsuit photo set or some "Glamour Shots," you have seen the kind of glamour/boudoir photos in which there is no nudity at all.
Glamour/boudoir photos have a wide range of styles. Nearly all photos of this type can be catagorized into 6 main styles: Classic Beauty, Fashion, Artistic, Pin-Up, Sensual, and Provocative.
Classic Beauty would be the type of shots where your first thought would be "Wow, she's beautiful!" This style emphasizes your elegance and femininity using poses and lighting that highlight your shape and looks to showcase your own unique beauty.
Fashion is the style you would see in magazines in cosmetics, jewelry, or clothing advertisements. If you desire, you could even bring in the actual advertisement and we can duplicate the look of the shot to your preference!
Artistic is the style where you think "abstract" and we focus more on your overall form than your face. These are the type of photos that you would see in a gallery that have been done strictly for the art of posing and lighting the human form.
Pin-Up is a style where the photos should shout sexy and cute! Above all they should be teasing, titillating, and fun! Think about the posters and magazine covers of the 1940's and 1950's and you will get the basics of the pin-up style.
Sensual is a style that should speak for itself. These are the photos that will overwhelm the eyes with a vision of your body in an image that is dreamy and pleasing to the eyes and the mind of the person you have intended these for.
Provocative is also a style that should speak for itself. These are images that demand to be looked at! Think of the classic "Playboy-style" centerfold look and you will be envisioning this style perfectly!
Your session will probably include all of these styles in some way, or a combination of the styles to make some memorable images that you, and the person you did the session for, will never forget!
Just remember that you are in complete control of the session, this is your special set of images, and should reflect your unique personality as much or more than the photographer's artistic style.
Now I know that most of you ladies will be thinking, "I could never do photos like that, I'm just not attractive enough," or "I'd be too nervous to show anything."
Nothing could be farther from the truth! Being attractive is very subjective and we have far too much of the mainstream media and Hollywood harping on what they think is attractive. Who would you rather believe? The people that know you or the industry that says actresses are too fat at 120 pounds! I have photographed women of all shapes and sizes, and they are ALL beautiful and sexy in their own unique ways. The joy of the process for me is finding that beauty and sexiness as I shoot the photos. I have found that it is not about size, shape, or age, it is about attitude. If you think you are sexy and beautiful and believe it, it will show up in these photos. Just as the old saying goes, attitude is everything.
As for being nervous, this is only natural, but it can be overcome. I understand that you can be nervous, you most likely will not have met me until we actually do your shoot and you will soon be posing in possibly revealing and/or nude poses. This is one reason I prefer to come to your home or a location of your choice. This is where you are most comfortable and least likely to be nervous. However, I can assure you that the nervousness will pass quickly once we start. I once did a shoot for a young lady that was so nervous when we started that I could not even get her to show a bare ankle. But by the end of the shoot, she was nude on the floor covered only in drapes and having the time of her life! She said it was like playing a grown up version of dress-up.
In the end, it is all about you. What do you want to show your favorite person? How much do you want to show? Do you want it to be innocently provocative or do you want it to be steaming hot sexy? Whatever you want to do, I will help show you how beautiful and sexy you are. I am very sure that you will be surprised by how fabulous you look in these photos when we get done.
